This article describes the methods of using modern methods in obtaining knowledge of medical students about metabolites of a living organism and heterofunctional compounds, which are one of the main classes of pharmaceutical substances, in a medical chemistry course, the role of interactive methods in developing their thinking activity, and developing the ability to link existing knowledge with new ones. Specific suggestions are also made about the ability of students to generalise knowledge and draw conclusions, as well as about creating an environment that encourages independent thinking and using methods that help develop the ability to independently search for a solution to a given problem.
